Steyning media walls for older rooms
Steyning is about 15 minutes from our showroom along the A283. In an older house we often build the media wall around the chimney breast and alcoves rather than covering them.
Chimney breasts, alcoves and old walls
Steyning has been a town since Saxon times, and its High Street and Church Street are lined with timber-framed and flint houses. Living rooms in these houses usually have a chimney breast, two alcoves and walls that are not quite straight.
That layout suits a media wall well. Cupboards in the alcoves hold the boxes and the clutter, shelves above take books and pictures, and the screen sits on the breast or on a panel between them. The joinery is scribed to the walls so it fits the room.
Painted finishes often look right in an older house. We can match a colour to the room and add oak, lighting or an electric fire where it suits.

A recent painted media wall we designed and built in Lancing
About 15 minutes south of Steyning, in Lancing, we built this painted unit in a soft misty blue, with drawers and cupboards below and open shelves above.
Oak acoustic slats on black felt run behind the screen and shelves, LED strips light the shelves from below, and a ventilated space keeps the games console out of sight.
Soft-close drawers, brushed nickel knobs and sockets placed with the cable runs in mind make it a piece of furniture that suits the room.
