Grey oak slatted wall holding a large television between floor-standing speakers, Storrington

Media walls that give Billingshurst rooms a focus

Billingshurst is about 20 minutes from our Storrington showroom by the A29 and A283. We design and build media walls for its houses, from the old village centre to the newer streets to the east.

Flat walls, open rooms and a lot of screens

Billingshurst grew up where Stane Street crosses the A272, and its oldest houses stand along the High Street below St Mary’s Church. A large development of new homes, approved in 2016, has gone up on the east side of the village, so many living rooms here are only a few years old.

Newer rooms tend to have plain plasterboard walls and no chimney breast, which leaves the television on a bracket with nothing around it. A media wall gives that side of the room some shape, with slats, panels or cupboards framing the screen.

In a family house the same wall often has to cope with a games console, a router, a soundbar and a pile of controllers. We plan a place for each, with ventilated cupboards and the cables run out of sight.

A whole wall of grey oak slats with the television centred and speakers standing either side, Storrington Close view of full-height grey oak slats framing a 77-inch screen, Storrington

A recent media wall we designed and fitted in Storrington

This Storrington wall was planned around a 77-inch television, which is far heavier than a plasterboard wall should be asked to hold on its own.

We built a new stud wall from scratch, reinforced where the screen hangs, and faced it from side to side in grey oak acoustic slats. It gives a plain room a real centrepiece and takes the edge off echo.

Inside the wall there is room for every cable, with access points designed in from the start. The speakers, soundbar and equipment rack belonged to the owners, so the wall was drawn to their exact sizes.

From bare plaster to a finished wall

  • A stronger wall

A new stud frame with a reinforced section sized to your screen, so a large television is held securely for years.

  • A finish for the room

Grey or natural oak slats, painted panels, or cupboards and shelves either side, chosen to suit a newer house or an older one.

  • The equipment

LG OLED evo or Samsung screens and Sonos sound supplied and set up by us, or your own kit fitted and connected.

A photo of the wall, a rough width and height and the size of your screen are enough to start. Walk in on a weekday or book a design consultation, and we will visit you in Billingshurst.
